A new system for temporarily increasing the size of buttocks is Dubai's latest plastic surgery trend, according to surgeons.
7DAYS discovered that the use of Macrolane hyaluronic gel has jumped as Dubai women seek more definition to their rear ends.
"You have a lot of skinny people who want Brazilian, pert buttocks. Also, after a certain age, people lose buttock fat and want to keep their definition,"
Macrolane is a type of gel that is injected into the buttock to increase its size, but it only lasts for a year. The client checks out how it feels and may then opt for more permanent silicone implants. It has jumped in popularity because it can be performed without overnight hospital stays.
"It has been around for a year but has really taken off in the last few months," Dr Toledo said.
Some clients are getting the treatment for weddings and other one-off events but keep it in for the year.
"It starts to go down after a year and then it's time to decide if they want silicone," Dr Toledo said.
Macrolane, which does not come from animals, is also used for temporary breast enhancements, later replaced with silicone if the client is happy with the new look.
Dr Toledo said that 54 nationalities sought help in his clinic last year, with 25 per cent from the UAE and 14 per cent British. Other prominent nationalities included French, Lebanese and Italian.
However, Dr Toledo said that small buttocks were not unique to any one nationality and that people from many nationalities seek his aid.
Others offering the service include Irish Cosmetic expert Dr Patrick Treacy MD of the Cosmetic Medical Group in Dubai, who is featured on a YouTube video explaining the procedure.
