Book publishing is a very sensitive business. Firstly, T.V. and internet have stolen a big chunk from the book sales, as people, in general, read less. Secondly, exchange rates play a very important role in book sales. As the U.S. dollar apprecciated recently, prices of books imported from the U.S.A , also apprecciated accordingly throughout the world.
People already squeezed between increased unemployment and increased prices
bought less and less books which were published in the U.S.A.
Askin Ozcan, a popular author with six published books in the U.S.A. says, he felt this decrease in the sales of his books, as his books are marketed internationally via 200 internet bookshops and 25.000 bookstores. "My royalty cheques became smaller and smaller" Ozcan complains, but he finds relief in the fact that the winds have changed and the U.S. dollar started to go down against all currencies in the last week.
He hopes, if this trend continues, it will greatly improve the sales of his books globally.
Askin Ozcan is looking for the possibility to have his books published in other languages.
