Every Tuesday they are letting five lucky customers buy anything from their huge selection of high heels, lingerie, costumes and clothing for only 1 cent. When asked why are you doing your Penny Tuesdays, Pierre Silber replied, “It’s the right thing to do. We have been fortunate to have great customers over our many years and we thought it would be fun to give back to them. I feel the odds are much better to win or be one of the first 5 customers to purchase from our online store then they would be if you went to Vegas.” So how does it work? “For one hour on Tuesdays from 12-1 PM, Pierre Silber will give the first 5 orders any item for 1 cent. With items that reach $1000 or more you can really make out.” So how has the recession hit your business? “Like everyone we feel it. Probably not as much as other industries or companies but we definitely feel it. Many of our vendors are raising prices and customers might only buy 1 item instead of 2 or 3. People are still buying, but we have to work twice as hard and come up with new ideas how to keep people happy and coming back. Some months, you will see us give away 3 free panties or stockings with no purchase of any items required. Another month, we will give away $20.00 Starbucks gift cards for orders over a certain amount. We never really had to do this in the past but now we have to give people a reason to buy. The days of buying because you want something, or buying just because are over. Today, people think twice about buying and really have to rationalize their spending so if they normally buy 2 to 3 shoes, maybe they only buy 1 pair and some stockings. We have also really gone after our closeout market. We offer high heels for under $20.00 and 5 panties for $14.97. You will not find better pricing on any other website and that’s what keeps customers coming back for more. Bargains and necessities are what people want today.” You’re one of the biggest companies that strictly do Sexy Halloween Costumes, how do you feel this Halloween will be and how will the recession hit the Halloween Business? “Well, I am very optimistic and Halloween is the second largest Holiday of the year, so we hope this will be a great year. Halloween falls on a Saturday so that should definitely help with sales since we have 32 days of selling. However, like the rest of the year, we are really going to scale back and be safe rather then believe we can light the World on fire with huge sales. The Sexy Halloween Costume business has been great for many years and I believe will still be strong for years to come. We will work for 7 to 10 temporary Halloween stores located in San Jose to San Francisco, but I stress to buy early this year because their might not be enough costumes. Many of our vendors are not going to bring in as many costumes as years past but rather try to sell what they have pre-sold so once we run out we will not be able to reorder most of the styles. Halloween has been an amazing business and last years sales were not really affected by this recession. I hope that is a good sign for this Halloween.” So how long do you feel this recession will last? “I’m no expert nor a fortune teller but I don’t see us getting out of this anytime soon.
