The Green Earth Schools Foundation has named Mick Mortlock, as Futurist and member of the Executive Staff. According to Dr. Paul Privateer, President and CEO of the Foundation "As we get ready to launch a revolutionary new model for education in this country, we need others, who like Mick Mortlock, will step up and begin to transform our 17th century education system into one that helps shape a new green world economy. Mick has been on the front lines of this work for two decades." In his new role, Mortlock will work with students, parents, faculty and staff to help equip them with a sense of future possiblities as well as working strategically with the community to identify future problems the Green Earth students will solve using their course knowledge.
Scheduled to open their first school in 2010, Green Earth Schools will modernize education by encouraging students to use what they’ve learned to become critical thinkers, help restore our environment, and become leaders and employees in the new energy economy. Their mission is to empower students to become actively engaged in their own education as they research and create innovations needed to solve our communities problems.
About Mick Mortlock: Mortlock was named one of America's leading futurists by The Public Manager, a prominent publication reaching federal, state and county government leaders. He created the first programs that use personal computers to teach and he managed Intel Corporation's Inventing the Future program. His work has also influenced future direction for numerous government agencies and corporations. He currently serves on the boards of several non-profits.
