Despite the incredible advances which have occurred in the past century with regards to technological innovation, human rights and economic growth, much of the world is still beset by problems such as widespread hunger, severe poverty, preventable diseases, limited access to medical treatment, a lack of proper education and the torment of conflict and bloodshed.
An examination of this dire situation reveals that the perceived barriers of ethnicity, religion, nationality and gender continue to serve as roadblocks to solving the issues sited above. In this light the Global Patriot movement was founded in 2008, promoting the idea of Patriotism Without Borders, that we are all members of one family that spans the globe and should therefore dedicate ourselves to advancing the health and well-being of everyone.
As a way to extend the reach of the Global Patriot movement, its founder Mark Lovett created a new group on Facebook (Global Patriot). The objective of the group is to provide a common place for those who believe in the cause to connect and communicate. Members are encouraged to participate in discussions of global issues and post comments related to making the world a better place.
With the announcement of March 20th as Global Patriot Day, charity campaigns will also be forthcoming, allowing group members and Global Patriot supporters to aid in raising funds for charitable causes around the world. In this way the group can have a positive effect on the lives of many in need and foster the belief that together, we can make a difference.
Some of the issues that Mark explores in his blog GlobalPatriot.com include volunteerism, hunger, philanthropy, sustainability, desertification, eco products, climate change, human rights and the advent of social media and its role in spreading awareness globally about these and other important issues.
Global Patriotism represents a dedication to building a just and sustainable future. It asks each of us to think beyond race, religion, gender and nationality and embrace the belief that we are all connected in a very real and profound way. With this approach we can address the world’s most pressing problems.
