On May 30-31, 2009, Tashard Choice, running back for the Dallas Cowboys, will be hosting a youth football camp at Sam Houston High School in Arlington, TX for student/
The purpose of the football camp is to give the youth in Arlington an opportunity to learn football skills, and to also stress the values of team work, integrity, and academic excellence.
Sam Houston High School was selected as the site for this camp because of its unique needs and student demographics. Sam Houston High School, and its junior high and elementary feeder schools, comprise a student population that is 71% economically disadvantaged, compared to the District average of 54% and the State average of 55%. Over 81% of the students are classified as At-Risk of dropping out of school.
As a member of the Dallas Cowboys, an All-American at Georgia Tech, and also being selected to the academic All-ACC first-team, Tashard wants today’s youth to understand the need for hard work on the field and in the classroom. Together with the generous support of donors, we can make it possible for disadvantaged youth to develop a better way of life and encourage them to dream and reach for a more positive future.
The anticipated attendance is 300 students from the surrounding area to attend the two day football camp where Tashard and other invited Dallas Cowboys will give inspirational talks to the campers about the need to work hard in the classroom and the benefits of staying in school.
