Mary Ellen explains in this Self Help Mindset series how to stay in the Present Moment. From Personal experience she shares 2 of the most difficult times in her life and how she managed to deal with the adversity it what seemed contriversial to the "Medical" Establishment.
This series explains that life is just a series of "present" moments in time. The goal is to find joy in the majority of moments but often life presents us with a difficult challenge. For most facing the terminal illness of a loved one is considered a major life stressor. However;
She shares how the first time she dealt intimately with "Death and Dying" it was when her Dad had terminal cancer. It was a time her peer group were experiencing the start of something new. Yes, a bit stressful too because it was Graduation from College but most were either going to Graduate School or starting a Career. Although she was about to embark on the same jounery as her peers instead just before the Graduation Cermony she was informed her Dad had 2 weeks to live. He was unable to attend the Graduation but her Mom showed her how to embrace the Success of completing College with Honors.
Honestly, at the time the accomplishments of the past 4 years seemed to be meaningless until her Mom showed her the way. She choose to put off a Career and stayed home to help her Mom care for her Dying Dad who was sent home with hospice care. Well the 2 weeks the Doctors predicted became 10 months and there were moments of joy and also moments of anxiety. Actually it left her with an "Anxiety Disorder" in the form of anxiety attacks and agrophobia but she feels these so called challeges actually helped to improve her as a person. "Up until this point most things came easily to me in life and so I Thank God for the anxiety because it gave me more compassion, patience and understanding. It actually made me a better teacher, mom, wife, friend, and person."
Now she was faced again with Death and Dying but this time it was her Mom. She was in a life threating accident and ended up in a coma. The Doctors didn't give her much hope but Mary Ellen choose to go to the hospital and enjoy the visits with her Mom. "Every moment became cherished and we enjoyed listening to music, reading, prayer and just chatting."
It became the concern of one of her Mom's Doctors that she was't handling the eminent Death of her Mom in the "correct manner.' There was too much joy and not enough tears and grief she he made her go see the Psychariasts on staff at the hospital.
