South African artist, Kay Puttergill, has recently launched her "Butterflies and Moth" collection online at her website http://kay.puttergill.org/
In describing her technique, Kay Puttergill explains that she makes very careful, detailed drawings of plants, usually in the form of selected studies of parts of the plant. These drawings are often magnified to record as much detail as possible. Once the drawings are complete, Kay rearranges the components and works out the colour schemes that she will work with. In each of these fantasy creations a butterfly or moth, or several, will be found. Each of these though, in contrast, is faithfully reproduced.
These artworks provide a beautiful balance between the abstraction and realism, and are a refreshing approach to handling the illustration of flora and fauna.
Kay Puttergill is an artist who now spends her time moving between her rural home in France and her family who are based in the UK. She has exhibited and sold paintings in Britain, France, South Africa, Botswana, and America.
