By: 8vertise It began in Sydney in 2007. On March 31st, 2007, 2.2 million homes and 2,100 businesses in Sydney switched off their lights for one hour, between 7.30pm - 8.30pm. The message was then shared with the rest of the world. In March 29th, 2008, 50 million people from 371 cities and towns in more than 35 countries participated in the campaign. And for this year, Earth Hour is targeting 1 billion votes, which will be presented to world leaders at the 2009 UN Global Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen, Denmark. This meeting will formalize a new global deal for climate change, replacing the Kyoto Protocol. Thus, 8vertise is urging people of all walks of life to vote, to make their voice heard. “If your air heater is broken, you feel cool. If your air cooler is broken, you feel hot. Now, the Earth is broken. It is sick. Hence, the global climate is changing – and very rapidly. And it is almost irreversible. Therefore, I’m urging all of us to cooperate to ‘fix’ the Earth before it is too late”, said Ian Kree, the founder of 8vertise. This year’s Earth Hour is going to be held worldwide on Saturday, March 28, 2009. It would be the world’s first global election, between Earth and global warming. To vote is easy. Simply switch off your lights for one hour between 8:30PM-9:30PM on that day to vote for Earth, or leave them on to vote for global warming. Additionally, ones could register themselves in Earth Hour’s official website. It is a call for action. # # # 8vertise is a spam free and family friendly human edited web directory.
