So you Talk the Talk, Now it’s time to Walk the Walk!

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PRLog (Press Release)Mar 16, 2009 – So you Talk the Talk, Now it’s time to Walk the Walk!

A very special offer for environmental groups from Enviropower Australia

While we’re all talking about global warming, saving the planet and using alternate energy, we continue to bury ourselves in waste.

Our councils continue to make token gestures on recycling but the truth of the matter is that we are sill burying recyclable materials in our landfill sites.

On a recent visit to a local “Green Council’s” landfill site, I left wondering how these councils can claim to be “green” when the waste from a supposedly “very green community” is simply dumped in the nearest hole in the ground!

The Facts
•      Australians create about 28 million tones of garbage each year. About a third of this material is recovered for recycling.

•      Almost 90% of the waste from caterers and restaurants can be recycled.

•      Planet Ark research has found that around 3.28 million tonnes of food is thrown out by Australian homes and business each year.

•      Australians threw away more than $5.2 billion worth of food and drink in 2004. Half of Australians admit to discarding $1000 a year in fresh food alone, while one in seven households throws away more than $2500 worth each year.

•      Putting food waste into landfill generates methane, a greenhouse gas.

•      According to the North East Waste Forum, municipalities stretching between Tweed, Richmond Valley and Clarence Valley buried 46,760 tonnes of compostable material in 2002/03.

It’s time to stop waiting for councils to do something, (when was the last time your council actively encouraged you with better ways to reduce and recycle your waste).

Some progressive Council’s in Australia such as Whitehorse City Council, Kiama Council, Knox City Council, are actively encouraging their communities to recycle a valuable resource, which is green, and food waste, using Worm farms, conventional composting and Bio-fermentation (the Bokashi Kitchen Composter)

Enviropower Australia is fed up with being told by council staff “we have a Bokashi system in our office for our own use”

Well what about the rest of the community?
