Follow on Google News | NTEF Celebrates Earth Day 2009Can Las Vegas become known for safer indoor environments for children? Indoor environmental awareness fund raiser set for April 25th, in Las Vegas.
By: NTEF According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) we are exposed to risks everyday. EPA studies of human exposure to air pollutants indicate that indoor air levels of many pollutants may be 2-5 times, and on occasion more than 100 times, higher than outdoor levels. These levels of indoor air pollutants are of particular concern because it is estimated that most people spend as much as 90% of their time indoors. In January of 2009, the EPA released their: “School IPM 2015: A Strategic Plan for Integrated Pest Management in Schools in the United States”, dated December 3, 2008. The purpose of this report was to accelerate and sustain high level IPM in schools to provide a safe, healthy learning environment for children. Sherry Glick of the EPA and the Beyond Pesticides Organization were part of the project’s developmental team. Mrs. Glick, John Kepner, Project Director of Beyond Pesticides, along with Jack Thrasher, Ph.D., Toxicologist, Immuno-toxicologist, Fetal-toxicologist, will be discussing how to mitigate chemical exposures in educational settings. Mrs. Glick serves as the National Coordinator for Schools and Pesticides within the EPA and was awarded the Hammer Award from Al Gore’s Office of Reinvention for progress in developing the Partners for the Environment Program. The event is Saturday, April 25, 2009, 7-11 p.m. at the JW Marriott in Summerlin, Nevada. $300.00 per person, hors-d’oeuvres, buffet, no host bar. Black tie optional. RSVP by April 3, 2009. Please make checks payable to: NTEF, POB 29194, Las Vegas, NV 89126. This event is for anyone who is concerned and has a vested interest in the health of our next generation. Indoor air quality is the one thing that we can control. For more information call 702.869.2885 or write Info@NTEF-USA.Org. End
