Mar 16, 2009 – In alignment with UNESCO's proclamation of 2009, as the "Year of Darwin", Turkish scientific and technological journal "Bilim ve Teknik" published a 16 page feature on Darwin. However, religious circles being against Darwin's "Theory of Evolution" protested against this feature, and as a result, the feature was censored and the editor of the magazine was sacked. This has brought the issue of "freedom of press" in Turkey, into a questionable status.
