Case study

Malaysian Hospital Uses Wireless System to Overcome Microbial Infestation Obstacles

A recent application for the Government of Malaysia's Ministry of Health was to provide a solution for a leading hospital that faced a severe problem of microbial infestation. The situation had deteriorated to such an extent that the entire 10 storey 1 million sq ft building had been forced to shut down.

As part of government's inquiry into the source of the problem the Fourier wireless system was installed. Data loggers were placed at various locations throughout the hospital's wards to determine the humidity in the supplied air, returned air, fresh air and the occupied spaces. The aim being to establish at what point the humidity spike occurs, since this enabled the microbial infestation to proliferate. The humidity activity was monitored over a period of a week to ensure that it did not exceed 75%.

The hospital covers a large area and so the solution chosen had to provide a single system that could monitor the entire zone, until a clear humidity trend could be identified and so the problem diagnosed. The system had to be reliable since the readings of the data loggers were essential in determining the high humidity areas, before treatment to resolve the issue could begin.
