FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PRLog (Press Release) - Mar 15, 2009 -
RENEW International, a Catholic not-for-profit organization based in Plainfield, New Jersey, will hold its tenth annual fundraising gala on June 4, 2009 at the Pleasantdale Chateau, West Orange, NJ. Sr. Terry Rickard, O.P., RENEW International’s Executive Director, will present Mr. Harry Farrell with the organization’s Spirit of RENEW Award, while Sr. Alice Yohe, S.S.J., will garner The President’s Award for her faithful, generous, and long-time support.

RENEW International’s gala raises funds each year to support the organization’s mission of bringing spiritual renewal to parishes and people around the world, leading to revitalized faith communities and individuals who take positive action on behalf of others. Sr. Terry Rickard commented, “We are truly blessed to recognize Harry Farrell and Sr. Alice Yohe for their commitment to the well-being of the community at large, and by that commitment, to the spirit and mission of RENEW International. Their enthusiasm and dedication are exceptional.”

The Spirit of RENEW Award is awarded to individuals who, through their actions, in both private and public life, have exemplified the Catholic values central to the mission of RENEW International, and who through word and deed, have spread the message of the Gospel to all.

This year’s recipient, Harry Farrell, has been active in the labor union movement for most of his working career. He currently serves as President of Local 1-2 of the Utility Workers Union of America and is a member of the National Executive Board of the Utility Workers Union of America, AFL-CIO.  In the NY/NJ metropolitan area, the UWUA represents workers at firms such as Consolidated Edison, Elizabethtown Water and Gas, PSE&G, and NJ Transit.

Mr. Farrell is a man who connects his faith to action on behalf of those in need. He is actively involved in Veritas Village, a not-for-profit substance abuse treatment facility that offers services to the entire family. Harry has helped many of his fellow union members find healing from addictions and deepen their everyday conscious connection with God. He and the Utility Union generously support the Dominican Sisters of Hawthorne and their work at Rosary Hill Home, dedicated to providing palliative care to persons afflicted with incurable cancer regardless of their financial resources.

The President’s Award is given to individuals who through their actions and support, have advanced RENEW international’s mission of evangelization, spiritual renewal, and faith formation and played a significant role in bringing those efforts to individuals, parishes, and dioceses throughout the world.

During her over 50 years of ministry, Sr. Alice Yohe, a Sister of St. Joseph of Chestnut Hill, has shown her total commitment to the renewal of the Church through a variety of ministries. Through her 23 years of outstanding faith-filled service as a devoted staff member of RENEW International, followed by her work at St. Joseph the Carpenter School in Roselle, NJ and on the Board of Trustees of Roselle Catholic High School, Sr. Alice continues to exemplify all of the elements vital to the mission and objectives of RENEW International.

These awards will be presented as part of RENEW’s gala reception, auction, and dinner at the elegant Pleasantdale Chateau, West Orange, NJ. Beginning with cocktails at 6 P.M., guests will have the opportunity to explore the exquisite landscaped grounds and graciously decorated rooms of this French Norman-style former family residence, built in the 1920s. The dinner will begin at 8 P.M., to be held in the spectacular circular ballroom and will feature dancing to the music of Fortune Entertainment. Throughout the evening, guests will be able to bid for luxury items, event tickets, and trips as part of the Silent Auction.
