The Spirit of RENEW Award is awarded to individuals who, through their actions, in both private and public life, have exemplified the Catholic values central to the mission of RENEW International, and who through word and deed, have spread the message of the Gospel to all.
This year’s recipient, Harry Farrell, has been active in the labor union movement for most of his working career. He currently serves as President of Local 1-2 of the Utility Workers Union of America and is a member of the National Executive Board of the Utility Workers Union of America, AFL-CIO. In the NY/NJ metropolitan area, the UWUA represents workers at firms such as Consolidated Edison, Elizabethtown Water and Gas, PSE&G, and NJ Transit.
Mr. Farrell is a man who connects his faith to action on behalf of those in need. He is actively involved in Veritas Village, a not-for-profit substance abuse treatment facility that offers services to the entire family. Harry has helped many of his fellow union members find healing from addictions and deepen their everyday conscious connection with God. He and the Utility Union generously support the Dominican Sisters of Hawthorne and their work at Rosary Hill Home, dedicated to providing palliative care to persons afflicted with incurable cancer regardless of their financial resources.

During her over 50 years of ministry, Sr. Alice Yohe, a Sister of St. Joseph of Chestnut Hill, has shown her total commitment to the renewal of the Church through a variety of ministries. Through her 23 years of outstanding faith-filled service as a devoted staff member of RENEW International, followed by her work at St. Joseph the Carpenter School in Roselle, NJ and on the Board of Trustees of Roselle Catholic High School, Sr. Alice continues to exemplify all of the elements vital to the mission and objectives of RENEW International.
These awards will be presented as part of RENEW’s gala reception, auction, and dinner at the elegant Pleasantdale Chateau, West Orange, NJ. Beginning with cocktails at 6 P.M., guests will have the opportunity to explore the exquisite landscaped grounds and graciously decorated rooms of this French Norman-style former family residence, built in the 1920s. The dinner will begin at 8 P.M., to be held in the spectacular circular ballroom and will feature dancing to the music of Fortune Entertainment. Throughout the evening, guests will be able to bid for luxury items, event tickets, and trips as part of the Silent Auction.
