Bristol, UK - The sea change in ideals of beauty over recent decades has opened the door for all kinds of women to work in modelling, according to major UK modelling agency, Models Direct. From television and film stars to magazine and catwalk models, there is no longer a single age, shape, colour, and size to which women must conform in order to be considered beautiful.

In the past, certain conventions of beauty tended to dominate. While these changed over the years as trends and fashions came and went, from buxom Marilyn Monroe to svelte Twiggy and so on, at any given moment there were strict rules about what beauty was.

Today however, the success of actresses like Gemma Arterton and Tilda Swinton, and musicians like MIA and Duffy, for example, suggest that society’s idea of beauty has never been so broad. According to Managing Director at nationwide modelling agency Models Direct, Damian O’Connor, the same trends can be seen in the world of modelling.

There have never been more opportunities for people who are interested in (http://www.modelsdirect.com/find_a_model/index.html) becoming a model, says O’Connor.

“The trend towards greater diversity we see in big budget movies and fashion, is happening at all levels of modelling,” he says. “In fact, if anything, the rest of the modelling industry is ahead of the high-end sector. We deal with clients everyday who approach us wanting to find a model with an idiosyncratic look.”

“I think over the years people have got bored with always seeing the same kind of style in advertising and TV. The shift away from the blonde-haired, blued-eyed kind of model has meant that pursuing a (http://www.modelsdirect.com/faq/index.php) career in modelling is a possibility for many more people than it used to be.”

“I think that’s a really positive thing,” says O’Connor, “not only for society but also for anyone who has ever considered becoming a model.”
