Pastor Steve Flockhart's Sermon 'The Restoration'

Every month Steve Flockhart starts a new sermon series which is based on a contemporary theme. In the month of February, he began with the sermon series called 'The Journey Home –The Father hasn't given up'. The sermons in this series are: The Running Away, The Regret, The Restoration, and The Resentment. The sermons are aimed at people who have lost their connection with God and are having trouble finding their way back to The Father.

Steve Flockhart discusses the story of the Prodigal Son in this series to teach people some very important lessons of life. The prodigal son lives a hellish life and squanders all the money he has gotten from his father. When he becomes bankrupt, he realizes the mistake he has made and decides to go back home. He regrets his deeds and when he returns to his father he says, "Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you. I no longer deserve to be called your son; treat me as you would treat one of your hired workers." His father is then filled with compassion and love.

He welcomes his son back and embraces him and kisses him. His father orders his servants to bring the finest clothes for his son and celebrates the coming back of his son by feasting. He says, “The son of mine was dead, and has come to life again; he was lost, and has been found.” Steve Flockhart says that the story of a Prodigal Son depicts the love of God and his infinite compassion, unconditional affection, everlasting forgiveness and mercy. He says that God is sad when his children go astray and break his commandments, but His love for his children is never lessened. He further says, “God's love for us is constant, it never changes”.
