Nancy Stelow, coordinator of this first-time event was pleased with the auction’s success. “We weren’t sure what to expect,” said Stelow, “It was our first time. The volunteers, and the community at large, were incredibly supportive. And to have 70 pieces of art donated by this incredibly talented arts community was heart warming.”
Auctioneer April Brown, was impressed with both the venue and the spirit of the volunteers. “This is a perfect venue for an auction, and the love and concern this community has for celebrating the arts and raising money for youth education is absolutely wonderful. We were delighted to help them raise not only money for the foundation but awareness of the greater educational needs in Port Townsend.”
A highlight of the afternoon gala was a special performance by Bertram Levy, one of the few accomplished bandoneonistas in North America. He has performed with the Latin American Chamber Music Society and with Patricio Touceda's Tango Retro. He has been the featured artist on NPR's West Coast Live. In addition he has conducted tango workshops in the United States and Canada, and has toured both in Argentina and USA. His performance at the auction was truly inspirational.
