Sydney - John Porter, the CEO of PODS "Portable On Demand Storage", reports a significant shift from 2008. " We have seen a 60% rise in people using PODS moving containers for interstate removals. Our containers have been increasingly used not only for local moving but also as a cost effective alternative to traditional interstate removals companies. We see this as a result of the changing economic conditions and a growing need for our customers to control costs."
The DIY move is traditionally feared in Australia. Often it results in strained friendships, unhappy relatives, trailer/truck rental and bad backs all jammed into one weekend. Much of a hassle of the DIY move is removed with a PODS container. "PODS has emerged as a new alternative, that makes the feared DIY move, a thing of the past" says Porter. "Our customers book their container and we drop it off in their driveway. They then have a month to pack it at their leisure. Or we can provide packers for them. Moving is so easy that help from friends and relatives becomes optional. We then pick up the container and deliver it to their new home. Increasingly we have seen our containers used for families moving interstate."
Porter feels the trend will continue into 2009 as the world economy tightens and people look harder for a easy, cost effective solution to interstate and local removals.
