How To Purchase Tensile Tester

High polymer has the widest range of changeability among all known materials. High polymer has rather high elongation rate. The elongation rate of PE is 90%～950% (linear low-density polyethylene LLDPE has the highest). Elongation rate of common high polymer is 50%～100% and some materials could reach above 1000% with special technique.                                            2. Tensile testing
In tensile testing, two sides of the sample are clamped respectively to the clamps.Then two clamps breakway at a certain speed until the sample ruptures.This is in order to test the stress changing of the sample.                                                       3. Index of auto tensile tester
Flexible package material mainly consists of high polymer or other relating materials. The elongation rate of high polymer is higher than other materials such as metal, fibre, wood and sheet. Therefore, tensile tester for high polymer is different from other materials. Attention should be paid to the valid stroke and clamp of auto tensile tester.
3.1 Valid stroke
Tensile tester with large stroke should be employed in flexible package material’s testing.It is because elongation rate of them is rather high even though the sample’s size is small, otherwise, clamps may exceed the stroke limitation and damage the instrument. For plastic film, reticle distance is usually within 25～50mm. For initial grip distance within 80～115mm, if sample could maintain the elongation rate of 500%, effective stroke should be 480～690mm. If elongation rate is 1000%, valid stroke should be no less than 880mm. In this statistics, instruments with large stroke are not all used for flexible package testing. Some of them are used for tensile testing of artificial board, canvas, curtain and copper.
3.2 Clamps
Tester should have appropriate clamps that can’t cause sample rupture at the grip part. When load is applied, two clamps can be in a straight line immediately so that long axis of sample coincides with tensile direction that goes through grip axis.Physical mechanical property particularity of high polymer and special usage of flexible package material determine that sample should be very thin. Therefore, common clamps could not meet the requirement and inappropriate operation can split sample at grip part and lead to testing failure.
