Prior to joining Cornwallis Mackenzie, Mr. Smith was a corporate finance analyst at MacArthur & Co., a corporate finance boutique advisory firm situated in the heart of Europe’s financial capital, the City of London. While there he worked on the full range of corporate finance activities including capital raising for businesses from early stage through to listing on the Alternative Investment Market (AIM), M&A, and a successful takeover defence. Prior to this he researched the European venture capital market for Dow Jones Venture One, the market-leading source of deal flow data and market information on early stage financing throughout the world. Through these two positions and his fluency in both French and German, Mr. Smith has a large network of contacts in the financial industries in the UK and continental Europe. He also has 2 years’ experience as a lobbyist, working for UK small businesses at the highest levels of government in Westminster and the European Union.
Mr. Smith received a first-class honours degree in European Studies (Economics, French and German) from Royal Holloway University of London. He is preparing for his final examination for the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) qualification, and will soon be a qualified accountant. He is also studying for his Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) certification, and hold the rare distinction of having achieved a 780 (99th percentile) on the Graduate Management Admissions Test (GMAT).
