Alpha Hydroxy Acids (AHA) are derived from various fruit and milk sugars. AHA’s are also known as glycolic acid and they are gaining in popularity. AHA’s are used in a variety of skin creams, lotions, and cosmetics in our modern day society. These glycolic acids unclog pores, clear skin, reduce wrinkles, age spots, and reveal a fresh new layer of radiant skin. AHA’s do this by exfoliating the first layer of dead skin cells by renewing the new layer beneath it. They also help hydrate the skin, increase your collagen production, and improve your skin’s texture. It can be in the form of 5 to 20 percent concentration in skincare products. Beta Hydroxy Acids or salicyclic acid as it is also known is similar to glycolic because they both have anti-aging and exfoliate properties. However, beta hydroxy acids are mainly used as just an exfoliant. They slough off the dead skin layers to help improve the skin’s look and texture. The best concentration that you need in beta hydroxyl products are in the form of one to two percent concentration with a three to four PH. You will start seeing results with beta hydroxyl acids in about six months.
