Stunning scenery and sea air have made Swansea one of the best places in Britain to run. The leading UK athletics publication ‘Runners World’ magazine has voted Swansea 13th best amongst the UK’s most athletic cities with accolades as the very best place in Britain for air quality and 3rd best for green-spaces in which to be active.
The Admiral Swansea Bay 10k road-race is the area’s annual flagship event attracting thousands of competitors every year, many of whom are international elite athletes, some travelling from as far away as New Zealand.
Eleanor Hughes from Port Talbot said: “I have run the Admiral Swansea Bay 10k several times and its one of my favourite road races because the route is so flat, I always manage to get a quick time and the scenery is stunning. It’s fantastic to see Swansea voted so highly in the Runners World rankings, it truly deserves it.”
Swansea Council Cabinet member Culture, Recreation and Tourism Cllr. Graham Thomas said: “The fact that this area offers some marvellous routes, magnificent views and great air quality will not come as a surprise to many residents who already take advantage of the bay-side routes for running and similar activities such as walking and cycling. I hope that Swansea’s popularity as a place to be active as highlighted through Runners World will inspire a whole new wave of people to get fit and take part in athletic events such as the Admiral Swansea Bay 10k”.
This years Admiral Swansea Bay 10k takes place on 27 September 2009. Entry forms will be available towards the end of March.
There will also be junior 1k, 3k and 5k races as well as the ever growing in popularity mascot race, which will see the likes of Active Arnie, Dame Admiral and Teg the Tiger compete to be the first across the finishing line.
