By: PMRESTA This 45-hour course begins in April and will be held on scheduled evenings at the Wallenpaupack Area High School in Hawley, PA. It is instructed by NR-EMT-Instructor and Law Enforcement Officer, Richard L. Bacon II. The program encompasses Advance First Aid, Patient Assessment, Treatment for the Injured and Ill, CPR for the Professional Rescuer, Basic Infectious Disease Awareness and Delivery of Emergency Oxygen at the Professional Rescuer level training. Successful students will meet or exceed all qualifications for Ambulance Attendant by law under the Pennsylvania Code TITLE 28. HEALTH AND SAFETY PART VII. EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES 1003.21, Subchapter B. Prehospital EMS Personnel - Ambulance Attendant. Upon completion of this course, students will obtain a nationally recognized First Responder status and possess the knowledge, skills and certifications required to test challenge the PA Department of Health's First Responder Certification process if they choose to do so. The lectures, demonstrations and hands-on training will include patient assessment, including vital signs and ongoing patient evaluation, pulmonary or cardiopulmonary resuscitation and foreign airway obstruction management, administration of oxygen, insertion of oral or nasal airways, and oral suctioning. Assessment and management of cardiac, respiratory, diabetic shock, behavioral and heat/cold emergencies, emergency treatment for bleeding, burns, poisoning, seizures, soft tissue injuries, chest, abdominal and pelvic injuries, muscle and bone injuries, eye injuries and childbirth. Application of spinal immobilization devices and splinting materials, including traction splints, basic triage and basic maneuvers to gain access to the patient, patient lifting and moving techniques, and the use of automated external defibrillators, plus other skills. The course fee is $165.00, which includes reference manuals and materials. Students will need to supply their own blood pressure cuff, stethoscope, pocket mask and penlight. Pre-Registration is required. Payment plans and invoicing are available. Junior and Full Members of Fire and Ambulance Companies may receive tuition reimbursement from their Relief or Training funds.
