Cook Islands want to get hold of a larger piece of the South Pacific tourist pie. They recently put out a press release, making false claims "The Cook Islands is the ultimate wedding and honeymoon destination, as unlike other South Pacific countries which require a 30 day wait, it allows couples to marry after only three days in the region. For those who can’t wait that long, a small fee can even be paid to waiver the residency requirement. The process could not be simpler, and the only paperwork required can be done in just half an hour once there".
The marriage laws in Vanuatu, however, are exactly the same as those in the Cook Islands. Couples arriving in Vanuatu, by cruise ship, can even get a ‘one day’ exemption, in which to lodge their paper work for their wedding. Airlines are currently providing cheap airfares to Vanuatu and there are numerous great accommodation deals out there.
You will find lots of great choices, like getting married on a private pier at Seachange Lodge, a boutique resort, or an ‘all the trimmings wedding’, at one of the big resorts such as Iririki Island, Le Meridien, or Le Lagon. You could take a flight to one of the outer islands like Tanna, and tie the knot on the lip of the active volcano, Mt Yassur. Or you may prefer to have a deep sea fishing or diving wedding. After the wedding, it would be a simple matter to take a dive over the side, as marriage is rather like going diving. (Jumping into the deep dark and mysterious unknown). You may opt for a custom wedding and could every try your hand at a pig killing ceremony. (Not highly recommended)
There are many options for arranging your wedding details, through the wedding specialists, as well as any outer island trip. John and Silvana at Hotels-Vanuatu will be delighted to assist you.
The fabulous news is that your wedding can be truly exciting and different, particularly in the tropical islands of Vanuatu, named the Happiest Country on Earth, in the South Pacific, the dream holiday destination of the world. A different place, a different pace, and you get to relax in island time, besides enjoying the delights of a different culture. And all just a short flight out of Australia, New Zealand, Fiji, or New Caledonia.
