While a souring economy is forcing many area businesses to scale back, one local senior care company is expanding. Home Instead Senior Care, with offices in north Indianapolis and Lafayette, has added a new location in Noblesville at 802 Mulberry St. Suite GB03, to serve the in-home, non-medical needs of area seniors. The expansion reflects a nationwide trend.
“As the baby boomers age and want to remain independent, the demand for quality care continues to increase despite a gloomy economic outlook,” said Chris Irons, owner, whose professional caregivers provide companionship to seniors and assist them with activities of daily living.
“Home Instead Senior Care has had a strong presence in this area for many years and we’re ready to meet a growing need that’s being seen not only locally but nationwide.”
The latest numbers from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics show that care giving is predicted to be the second fastest-growing field over the next decade. In Indiana, the caregiver job category (listed as personal and home-care aides) is expected to increase from 12,240 jobs in 2006 to 16,540 positions in 2016. That’s a projected 35 percent increase.
Nationwide, the personal and home-care aide classification is expected to grow by more than 50 percent between 2006 and 2016, increasing from 767,000 to a projected 1.15 million jobs.
Home Instead Senior Care, the largest company of its kind but one of many throughout the U.S., employs 60,000 caregivers nationally. To keep pace with this projected demand, “our research shows that nationwide we’ll have to double our care force in just three years,” said Irons.
On a positive note, these projections will result in job opportunities for area workers hit hard by the economy, he said, “providing a flexible part-time option for additional income or a new career.”
Home Instead Senior Care is the world’s leading provider of non-medical, in-home services to seniors with more than 800 independently owned and operated franchises worldwide. Its caregivers help clients maintain their independence by assisting them with daily tasks such as meal preparation, laundry, shopping, light housekeeping, driving and incidental transportation.
Irons opened his first Home Instead Senior Care office in north Indianapolis in 1996, and the Lafayette office in 2006.
