Follow on Google News | New exhibition launched at the Glynn Vivian Art GalleryWORKS by some of the UK's finest artists are among those featured in a new exhibition at Swansea's Glynn Vivian Art Gallery.
By: City and County of Swansea Supernova brings together works by 15 contemporary British artists to examine the evolution of geometric abstraction in the 21st Century. Geometric abstraction has its origins in the early part of the last century when artists first shocked the world by just using coloured shapes and patterns in their paintings. The artists in the exhibition continue to work in this way while including subtle changes. And a visit to the Gallery will enable people to see how as there are not only paintings to enjoy but also today's new art forms such as dvds, films and art on the internet for wider audiences to join in. Gary Hume, Keith Coventry, Liam Gillick, Toby Zeigler and Dan Norton are among the artists featured. Jenni Spencer-Davies, Swansea Council's Glynn Vivian Gallery curator, said: "The exhibition is certainly an exciting one. "The fifteen artists have contrasting styles to their art and visitors to the exhibition will be able to see this." Supernova is largely made up of paintings but also includes projection works. The works are drawn from the British Council collection as well as private lenders and other collections. Supernova is on display at the Glynn Vivian Art Gallery from Saturday February 28 to April 26 and admission is free.
