March 4, 2009 - PRLog -- The Ashtamudi is one of the largest wetland ecosystems in Kerala.It is a palm-shaped extensive water body with eight prominent arms - Ashtamudi.The arms converge into a single outlet at Neendakara near Kollam, to enter the Lakshadweep sea.The major river discharging into the Ashtamudi is the Kallada river, formed by the confluence of three rivers, viz., the Kulathupuzha, the Chendurni and the Kalthuruthy.The Kallada river originates from the western ghats.

Our train to Alleppey was on time and we reached there early morning. Since we had already made arrangements with a HomeStay, we headed staright to their place. The homestay had regular rooms and traditional bamboo rooms - we opted for the latter.

After freshening up and a quick breakfast we headed out. The homestay is located very near the Alleppey canal where all the boats are docked. We opted for a 6 hour canoe cruise on the backwaters.

Apart from the exhilarating beauty of this God’s own country, its mouthwatering cuisines give moment to cherish along with your family. Taste the fabulous cuisines prepared in the coconut paste and pure natural herbs and spices. Once you will taste these fabulous food prepared in the coconut oil you will end up with licking your finger and twisting your tongue.
