SOUTHLAKE, TX (3/03/09) -- Within the first few months of their lives, babies learn to see the world around them. During this time, they tend to be attracted not only to faces but also to high-contrast images as they learn to perceive shapes and patterns. Many infant toys make use of this tendency, decorated with spirals, stars, or other interesting black-and-white images. Now there's a way for parents or other caregivers who have an iPhone or an iPod touch to provide this kind of visual stimulation any time, anywhere.
iBabyMobile, LLC, has created an app called iBabySee, available on the Apple iTunes App Store. iBabySee shows expertly drawn high-contrast black and white images, one after another, on the iPhone/iPod touch screen. The images fade from one to the other every few seconds, providing continuous visual interest to the very young. In addition, classical music plays while the images are being shown. The overall experience can not only draw a restless baby's attention, but also hold it for a while, since there are dozens of images included in the app. There are thoughtful controls available, such as instant volume muting and the ability to pause or manually flip through the images. Other controls include varying the amount of time each image is shown, the duration of the transition between images, and selection of the type of transition to use.
