SlickAccess version 2.1 offers key capabilities to simplify IT managers’ management and users’ work with Server Based Computing (SBC) platforms. SlickAccess2.1 delivers unified management for multiple Terminal Server (TS) server farms and for assignment of applications deployed on various Server Based Computing (SBC) platforms to users using a single UI and full language support for end users’ SlickAccess USB drive software.
Tel-Aviv, Israel, February 25th, 2009 – SlickAccess, a provider of solutions for simple management of SBC platforms and for users’ clientless access to SBC applications, today announced availability of SlickAccess Server 2.1. The new version provides powerful solution for simple management of multiple types and server farms of TS server farms such as Windows2003™
Terminal Server (TS), Windows 2008™ TS and Citrix™ Presentation Server. Version 2.1 further offers language support on the users’ side, enabling users to interact with the SlickAccess USB drive in their own language.
With the introduction of new SBC platforms such as Windows2008™
TS and Citrix™ XenServer™ offering advanced features, customers are presented with a serious challenge to balance between the need to maintain existing SBC solutions and the desire to benefit from deploying new SBC platforms. In many cases, applications developed for existing platforms such as Windows2003™
TS were re-write of even older applications and cannot run on new platforms.
“Companies today already have various types of SBC platforms deployed” says Dan Yachin, Senior Analyst at IDC, “it becomes a serious challenge to introduce new platforms such as Windows2008™
TS or VDI as they require considerable investment in initial setup as well as additional ongoing management resources. A solution, such as SlickAccess’
s, that unifies SBC management definitely simplifies the adoption of new platforms.”
SlickAccess™
offers a simple solution for IT managers to define in a single UI multiple server farms and applications running on these servers. Regardless of their type, IT managers can assign these applications to users from the same SlickAccess UI. For example, a company running Windows2003™
TS with several applications of which some cannot be installed on Windows2008™
TS, can now create a Windows2008™
TS server farm for application that can run on this new platform and reduce the number of Windows2003™
TS server to support older applications. Using SlickAccess UI, IT managers can define two or more server farms and applications running on each server farm. SlickAccess Server delivers load balancing and session management for each farm separately. Using SlickAccess management, IT managers can define a profile for users and groups that includes applications from both farms along with other resources such as a VDI or physical PC and to generate a SlickAccess personal USB drive for users. Once inserted to a PC, SlickAccess USB drive presents users with a toolbar of applications from both server farms assigned to users by IT. Users can use their SlickAccess USB on any Windows based PC within the company or outside (after adding VPN settings) and IT managers can change users’ applications from a single point – SlickAccess management.
“Coming from the IT world, we have gone several times through periods in which new advanced technologies were introduced but it was expensive, time consuming and sometimes impossible to replace existing technologies”
says Barak Shrefler, co-founder and VP Products at SlickAccess, “This is where we are today with introduction of great technologies such as Microsoft™ TS, Citrix™ XenServer™ and VMwre™ solutions just to name a few”
SlickAccess Server takes an hour to install and configure and requires no integration with other systems.
