Anders Holst plays a role in finding a cure for breast cancer through his music

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PR Log (Press Release)Feb 26, 2009 – During the entire month of March, singer and songwriter Anders Holst will work to support of a cause near and dear to his heart.  All proceeds from the iTunes sales of his single “All About Soul” between March 1st –31st will be donated to the Greater New York City Affiliate of Susan G. Komen For The Cure ®.   After seeing two dear lifelong friends suffer through the fight against the tenacious disease, Anders became inspired to take action.  Through the avenue of his music, it is Anders’ hope that money can be raised for the advancement of breast cancer research, education, screening and treatment to eradicate breast cancer as a life threatening disease.

The song “All About Soul” is Anders’ jazzy take on the Billy Joel original.  Anders Holst is an adult contemporary singer whose music incorporates smooth and jazzy elements, and has been likened to Sting, Seal, Leonard Cohen, Boz Scaggs, Bryan Ferry, and Robert Palmer. His latest album, Romantika, was released at the end of January, and has been praised by the likes of Billboard Magazine, Quincy Jones, Jazziz, and SmoothJazz.com.

The Greater New York City Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure was founded in 1990 and has raised over $45 million to date.  The organization is devoted to its local community, disbursing up to 75 percent of net income to local breast health programs in the five boroughs of New York City, on Long Island and in Westchester and Rockland Counties. In 2008, Komen Greater NYC is awarding close to $3.8 million in grants -- more than $2.5 million will support 38 community-based organizations and three hospitals that provide breast health programs to underserved women and nearly $1.3 million will support peer-reviewed research projects at the national level.  For more information, visit the Komen Greater NYC Website, www.komennyc.org.

What The Press Are Saying:

“His (Anders) honest and original love songs can give romantic music a brand new chance. Do your heart a favor and check him out.” - QUINCY JONES

“Anders Holst is a regal contender to become the new crowned prince of contemporary romantic music. The original compositions across ‘Romantika’ glide with the ease and beauty of a springtime drive through the countryside.” - BILLBOARD MAGAZINE

“On the opening track, Holst applies his smoky, emotive vocals to Billy Joel’s “All About Soul,” which also features the lyrical soprano saxophone of David Wilczewski winding like ribbon through the airy, string-laden arrangement.” - JAZZIZ MAGAZINE

“I love this album. I’ve been eagerly awaiting its arrival. I’ve been a fan since the very first moment I heard Anders’ voice.” - SMOOTHJAZZ.COM

“The Sting of Stockholm is back and this time he's singing about love. Holst sings like a man comfortable in his own skin. He does not try to fit into the jazz singer mold; he just sings his own song. Maybe Holst would consider leading men on a journey from Mars to Venus?” - ALL ABOUT JAZZ

"’All About Soul’ is the best I've heard from Holst… it is a very well-written tune and Holst's smooth jazz interpretation makes it a great track for our smooth jazz channel. People hear Boz Scaggs and Robert Palmer in the music … the vocal approach is best described as a blend of Bryan Ferry and Peter Gabriel.”- MUSIC CHOICE

“He begins the album with a stroke of genius - a cover of Billy Joel's "All About Soul" that surpasses the original with its careful but tender reading, sparked by David Wilczewski's sax solo…. His baritone voice recalls Roxy Music's Bryan Ferry, or perhaps at times a more mellow Kurt Elling.” - STRAIGHT NO CHASER JAZZ
