FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla.—Janis R. Ehlers, principal and partner for The Ehlers Group, an award-winning, full-service strategic marketing, sales and communications company in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., was recently appointed to the Board of Trustees for the National Association of Home Builders’ 50+ Housing Council.
The National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) is a Washington, D.C.-based trade association representing about 220,000 members involved in residential building, remodeling, multifamily construction, property management, subcontracting, design, housing finance, building product manufacturing and other aspects of residential and light commercial construction. Known as “the voice of the housing industry,” NAHB is affiliated with more than 800 state and local home builders associations around the country.
Since 1989, the 50+ Housing Council has served the special needs and interests of NAHB members and others in the housing industry who build for the growing 50+ market. The 50+ Housing Council provides information, education and research to its members and offers advocacy support to NAHB members on key 50+ housing issues. The council supports 20 local councils around the United States and serves more than 1,400 NAHB members involved in 50+ housing.
Ehlers was appointed to the NAHB 50+ Housing Council’s Board of Trustees, a 21-member board that manages the group’s activities. The board is comprised of builders, developers and industry professionals involved in and interested in 50+ housing.
For more than 30 years, Ehlers has managed various aspects of strategic marketing programs a wide range of residential real estate developments, especially those geared to active adult and senior consumers. Ehlers has been involved in the opening more than 55 residential communities across the United States and Puerto Rico. She is considered a leading expert in active adult and service-enriched seniors housing.
Ehlers holds NAHB’s prestigious Certified Active Adult Specialist in Housing (CAASH) designation. She has authored the book Marketing Seniors Housing, published by NAHB, and has written articles for various NAHB publications. She also has been a frequent speaker at industry conferences such as NAHB’s Building for Boomers & Beyond: 50+ Housing Symposium.
Prior to forming The Ehlers Group, Ehlers was an executive-level marketing and public relations professional for two major U.S. real estate development corporations.
