Feb. 25, 2009 - PRLog -- A piano recital program outside of a usual performance length, going beyond an “easy-to-digest” repertoire choice, made for the first time by a woman: Italian pianist Roberta Pili will be performing the last big five piano sonatas by L.v.Beethoven in one concert evening on Sunday, March 15, at 7:30 pm at Zankel Hall / Carnegie Hall, NYC.

With this kind of “mammoth” concert program Roberta Pili wants to initiate a revival of an important era in the classical music history. End of the 19th century great musicians marked a tradition of overdimensioned piano recitals, profound musicality, understanding of polyphony and serious interpretation: H.v.Bülow (who performed the last five Beethoven´s piano sonatas in one evening ), Anton Rubinstein, Teodor Leschetizky, Ferruccio Busoni, Sergei Rachmaninoff, Josef Hofmann, Lepold Godowsky, Shura Cherkassky.

“This is certainly one of the most demanding
tasks for a pianist, but to approach
such labyrinthine and complicated
things is a perfect challenge for me;
trying to reveal the quintessence of them.
As a woman I feel a huge duty to get
closer to Beethoven’s musical message.
By all means I do not intend to compete
with other male colleagues, but rather
to create another way to experience
Beethoven’s music. This has nothing to
do with ego. Rather, it leaves out egocentrism
to reach selflessness. Thereby,
the identification with Beethoven happens”, says Roberta Pili.

This unique piano recital program at Zankel Hall / Carnegie Hall will be performed by a woman to help women: all ticket sales will benefit The Breast Cancer Research Foundation www.bcrfcure.org.
