New Comedy Club in Dublin, CA to Feature Rising Stars

Dublin, CA ,  Laugh-A-Lot Productions, one of the Bay Area’s premier comedy production companies, announced today the opening of Bunjo’s Comedy Club in Dublin, CA. Bunjo’s will focus on booking top notch comedians, many whom have appeared on Jay Leno, David Letterman,  Craig Ferguson, Comedy Central and HBO but have yet to experience wide exposure.

Said John DeKoven, President of Laugh-A-Lot, “The comics we book are some of the most talented in the business, but they’re still waiting for their big break. This allows the audience to enjoy a great comedy show without having to pay a fortune for tickets.  Plus, they may end up seeing the next Eddie Murphy or Robin Williams.”  

Bunjo’s is located at The Willow Tree Restaurant in Dublin and will operate in its own dedicated space in the restaurant.  Bunjo’s will handle all the booking, marketing and operations of the club, while The Willow Tree will handle the entire bar and food operations.  

The club had an unofficial grand opening with their second annual “Festivus Jubilee” in December 2008. Bunjo’s is now host to “Friday Night Funnies”, and has plans to produce comedy shows on a full time basis starting in April.  “Many clubs make the mistake of trying to do too much too quick which can make for an unpleasant experience” said DeKoven”.  “We are going to take it easy for a month or so and make sure we can get our systems down and make it a pleasant experience for everyone; the comics, the workers and most importantly the audience.

When the club is up and running full time the majority of shows open to the public will be Thursday through Sunday.  

Thursday will be dedicated to local up and coming comics looking for stage time to perfect their craft.  Kicking off this Thursday concept will be the Killer Laughs II Comedy Competition, which will run for 10 weeks.  After the competition the club may go to an open/mic and showcase combination format.  

Friday and Saturday will be the more traditional comedy show with an MC, Feature and Headlining act.  Many of these comics will be from different parts of the country and will have television and movie credits.  

Sunday is going to be geared towards a “squeaky clean” night of comedy good for the whole family.

Monday through Wednesday’s will typically be reserved for private parties, fundraisers and what will surely be a one of a kind experience “The Birthday Roast”.  “The Birthday Roast” will allow someone to celebrate their birthday in the style of the old Friars Roast or more recently The Comedy Central Roast.  Bunjo’s will provide a “Roastmaster” who through the help of the birthday person’s friends will write customized material so they can roast that special someone.  Of course their friends and family will also have an opportunity to roast them as well.  The birthday person will receive a customized poster that all their friends and family will sign, digital photo’s of the evening and a copy of the roast on DVD.

Current bookings at Bunjo’s are as follows: Feb 27 – Jeff Applebaum (Craig Ferguson, The Rat Pack);  March 6 – Jackie Kashian (Last Comic Standing, Comedy Central);  March 13 – Mickey Joseph (The Rat Pack); March 27 & 28 – Not Dead Yet Tour (Individual winners of various comedy competitions). Also the Killer Laughs II Comedy Competition will be every Thursday from March 5 – May 7.  At the time of this press release the months of April through June were being booked.
