The pre match publicity done by Staff Association President Dr Manoj Soni and Executive MS Monica Sharma generated not only excitement all over the campus but also heated debates about career makers also being home makers and home makers also being career makers etc. The heat of this match was no way less than the one generated several years ago when staff association had organized a cricket match Time Passers XI (BITS Faculty Members) and Mass Bunkers XI (Students).
The match was inaugurated by the First Lady of the Campus Mrs Gayatri Maheshwari wife of Prof LK Maheshwari the Vice Chancellor of BITS Pilani. The Home Makers XI captain Mrs Laksmi Gurunarayanan won the toss and elected to bat. The Home Makers scored 61 in 10 overs for the loss of seven wickets and will be remembered for the huge six the only one in the match scored by Shilpi Garg. Mrs Jayanthi Arvind who made 11 runs with her valiant knock was the top scorer for the Home Makers team and Aarti was the most successful bowler for the Career Makers team for not giving any extras in her wicketless spell. Home Makers had a setback in the sense that Mrs Abha Mittal could not play due to unexpected fitness problem.
Stylish knock of 22 by Captain Dr Sangeeta Sharma and a breezy knock of 25 by Dr Poonam Goyal who made batting look simpler than solving boundary value problems saw the Career Makers team reach the target with a bonus of 15 runs coming as extras (few less than what they gave the Home Makers team). Dr Navin Singh and Dr Navneet Goyal did a great job in their role as umpires for the match. The spectators for the match included who is who in the campus, spouses of the players, children and many other well wishers.
The real winners in this match is the strong bonding which took place among a whole cross section of the residents of Vidya Vihar campus of BITS Pilani which is one among the NAAC top ranking universities in India today.
