Feb. 23, 2009 - PRLog -- IP-PBXs enable companies of any size to take advantage of broadband connections to offer low cost VoIP-based (Voice over Internet Protocol) calling plans. In order to connect VoIP calls to the millions of existing PSTN-based (Public Switched Telephone Network) telephones, switches and PBXs, a gateway is required that converts VoIP signaling to PSTN signaling.

The TeleSoft TsCONNECT VoIP to PSTN Gateway provides this conversion and enables manufacturers and suppliers of IP-PBXs and associated TDM telephony cards to easily add PSTN connectivity to their SIP-based IP-PBX products. TsCONNECT is an integrated Gateway that incorporates the key features necessary to connect VoIP calls to the PSTN in most countries in the world. Because the TsCONNECT Gateway API consists of industry standard SIP messages, there is no need to change existing IP-PBX software (such as Asterisk, Freeswitch, etc.) to interface to a proprietary telephony or TDM card API, avoiding extra cost, delay and risk. TsCONNECT works with standard Zaptel/Dahdi drivers and multiple off-the-shelf telephony hardware products.

TsCONNECT runs alongside the IP-PBX software on the same PC/server platform and under the same Linux operating system. TsCONNECT is easy to install with a standards-based SIP API that interfaces directly to the IP-PBX SIP without requiring any hardware connections.

“Developers face multiple challenges when trying to add VoIP Gateway capability to their products. In-house development can take a long time and is costly in terms of resources, time-to-market and dollars. OEMing a gateway from a competitor is problematic on several fronts, proprietary APIs, low margins, exposure of your business plan and lack of competitiveness,” said Christopher Cox, V.P. Marketing for TeleSoft International.

TeleSoft’s TsCONNECT VoIP Gateway meets these challenges head-on; TsCONNECT 1.0 is available now, it uses industry standard APIs (SIP and Zaptel/Dahdi), it works with off-the-shelf telephony hardware available from multiple vendors and with the added bonus of running on Linux.

While most applications will require T1/E1 PRI ISDN other options include support for QSIG (the standard interface for PBX-to-PBX communications), T1 Robbed-Bit Signaling (used mainly in N. America) and E1 CAS R2 (widely used in S. America and Asia).
