With June fast approaching the Southern Ocean County Chamber of Commerce is working to capture interests of first time and return visitors for some post Memorial Day activities. Art & Leisure weekend with Restaurant Preview begins Wednesday, June 10 and continues through to Sunday June 14. "There are many first time events taking place during this time, as well as tried and true favorites" claims Lori Pepenella, Destination Marketing Director for the Chamber. This year the chamber is calling upon their restaurant members to create a "restaurant week" type of event, that will span Wednesday through Friday and will feature prix fixe three course dinners ranging from $20-$35, depending on the establishment. This is a great opportunity for residents and visitors to take advantage of specialties and get a great dining bargain as well. The restaurants will offer this specials Restaurant Preview menu along with their regular offerings.
In addition to some delicious dining, June 13-14, brings the chamber sponsored New Jersey Arts Festival to the Ethel Jacobsen Field in Ship Bottom. This event is run through Paragon Art Events, who hold world class shows in The Hamptons, Cape Cod and Virginia Beach. The Long Beach Island Show is the first New Jersey Show the promoter has done. "We have been working with Paragon since the spring to secure this for our area" comments Rick Reynolds, Executive Director " This show will bring an wider audience to our area and to our businesses".
Art and Leisure Weekend will also feature a sampling from local organizations. Surflight Theater will be performing June 13 the Gershwin's Lady Be Good, a musical from the American Masterpiece Series, Tuckerton Seaport will be hosting the Rolling Memories Car Show and Long Beach Island Foundation is teaming up with Reclam the Bay, Friends of Barnegat Light House and Viking Village for a sea to table shellfish eco tour.
