Devon Preparatory School’s Academic Challenge Team will advance to the Chester County Championship having recently won its semi-final match against Downingtown West and Downingtown East High Schools. The Academic Challenge Competition is sponsored by the Chester County Intermediate Unit (CCIU).
The Championship match will be held in mid- March and the champion will represent the CCIU in the Pennsylvania Academic Competition in Harrisburg in late April. In addition to Devon Prep, Unionville and West Chester East High Schools will be competing for the county title.
According to Devon Prep’s long time coach and Devon Prep Faculty Member Mr. Paul Sanborn, this year’s team is comprised of many hardworking young men, especially team captains, Seniors Mark Rafferty, Felix deRosen and Kevin Mucchetti. “This year I am blessed with captains who have taken on the responsibility of drilling the team and working with me to insure we, as a team, reach our fullest potential,” said Sanborn.
Eighteen teams participated in the CCIU Academic Challenge Competition this year. The nine highest scoring teams during the regular season participated in the semi-final competition.
Now in its 25th year, the Chester County Academic Challenge Competition provides an opportunity for students to compete in a "college-bowl"
The mission of the Chester County Academic Challenge Competition is to promote lifelong learning, celebrate academic achievement and enhance self-confidence as members of a team by providing healthy yet challenging opportunities for high school students to develop academic, social and personal skills.
Devon Prep is a private, Catholic, college preparatory school for young men in grades six to 12 conducted by the Piarist Fathers.
