Feb. 21, 2009 - PRLog -- From modest roots, Trey’s House has blossomed into a busy clubhouse/coffee house celebrating its’ first anniversary, welcoming a new board member and beginning an arts collaboration.

Saturday, March 7, will mark the first birthday of Trey’s House, a non-profit, 501c3 organization for people with acquired and traumatic brain injury. The day will be marked with a celebration at 1709 Blanco Road, at the intersection of Blanco and Fulton Street. The celebration from 2-4 p.m. will feature live music, free birthday cake and punch and face painting. It will also announce a new partnership with San Antonio Visual Artists.

SAVA, an alliance of visual artists dedicated to enhancing the cultural life of San Antonio, will have artists working and displaying their wares through the afternoon.

Treys’ House began last year when founder Margaret Griffith gathered a small handful of people with brain injuries in her living room to discuss their common problems and successes dealing with their injuries. Social reintegration became their goal.

“So many TBI victims put themselves in self imposed isolation, fearing social situations they once thrived in.” Griffith said. “We call Trey’s House a practice hall. The real concert is out there, in the every day world.”
The birthday bash is free and open to the public, although, donations will be accepted.

“We wanted this to be a celebration, not a fund-raiser,” volunteer Lynn Douglass said. “But, we will not turn down any and all donations we are offered.”

Trey’s House is also pleased to announce the addition of Dr. Bruce Warren to the Board of Directors.

Bruce Warren, PhD, MD comes to the board through the Military Order of the Purple Heart.

Trey’s House is also a coffee house with a jam session on Tuesday nights hosted by local musician Mike Clancy, open mic night on Fridays and Joharis’ Window (a night of artistic collaboration – music, written and spoken word, drawing and painting) on Thursday night. All three programs run 7-10 pm and there is no cover charge.
