Fort Wayne, Indiana based Warbird Brewing Company is pleased to announce the arrival of Warbird Beer to the Savannah and Atlanta, Georgia areas.
Two Warbird beer styles, Thunderbolt Wheat and Shanty Irish Ale, are now distributed by Savannah Distributing and will be available at many locations in and around Savannah and Atlanta.
Thunderbolt Wheat is a hand-crafted Bavarian-style wheat beer and is named after the P-47 Thunderbolt. The package and label feature the image of famed 8th Air Force ace and commander of the 56th Fighter Group, Colonel Hubert “Hub” Zemke. Shanty Irish is a Gold Medal winning Irish-style ale, and features the personal airplane of Lt. Gilbert O’Brien, the P-51 Mustang known as the “Shanty Irish.” Lt. O’Brien named his airplane “Shanty Irish” to proclaim his Irish immigrant heritage.
Dr. Dave Holmes, founder and owner of the Warbird Brewing Company will be overseeing a special tasting of Warbird Beer from 3 to 5:30PM on Thursday February 26, 2009 at Hunter Army Air Field in Savannah.
Dr. Holmes, will also be at The American Legion Post, 135 in Savannah on Thursday February 26, 2009 at 6:00 PM. In addition to greeting patrons and personally sharing the story of Warbird beer, Dr. Holmes will present his credentials and seek membership to the Savannah Legion Post 135.
Dr. Holmes, known by his military call sign “Sidney,” will help welcome Warbird beer to Georgia at a historically important venue to him, and his brand.
“From the very beginning, Warbird beer has been about honoring the people who have served our country. We brew our beer in honor of those who have flown and maintained these wonderful airplanes,” says Holmes. “Naming our beers after retired military airplanes is our way of honoring their memory and telling their stories.”
Dr. Holmes is himself an 8th Air Force veteran. He served in Operation Desert Storm as a Flight Surgeon with the 138th Fighter Squadron, 4th Fighter Wing (Provisional)
“As a veteran, I have always been eligible to join a Legion Post, but I never felt compelled to join one until I visited Savannah Post 135. It all started right there at the Savannah National Guard Armory where Legion Post 135 maintains its operation. I can’t imagine a better post for me to join, both personally and for the sake of Warbird Brewing Company,” says Holmes. “I am very proud to have served and to have been a part of the 8th Air Force and its historic achievements,”
Dr. Holmes is also the host of “The Warbird Beer Show”, an increasingly popular internet-based talk show heard exclusively on Flight Line Internet Radio, with over 140,000 unique listeners globally.
