International Family Therapy Association (IFTA)
The World Family Therapy Congress will be held on March 4-7, 2009, at the Bernardin Convention Centre, Grand Hotel Bernardin in Portorož, Slovenia, a green and diverse country between the Alps and the Mediterranean.
The theme for this, 17th World Congress, is ‘Reconciling Differences:
- Kim Halford - Professor of Clinical Psychology at Griffith University, Brisbane Australia.
- Madhu Kasiram - Professor in the School of Social Work and Community Development at the University of KwaZulu Natal in South Africa.
- David Schnarch - Director of the Marriage & Family Health Center of Evergreen Colorado, a licensed clinical psychologist, and founder of the Crucible® Approach to integrated marital-sexual therapy.
- Mimoza Shahini - Head of Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services in Kosovo and lecturer of State University of Prishtina.
- Carlos E. Sluzki - Professor, Department of Global and Community Health, and Institute for Conflict Analysis and Resolution, George Mason University.
The multitude of topics related to family therapy covered will be:

One of the activities that will be occurring at the meeting is the IFTA Chamber of Associations Meeting, an opportunity for representatives for professional regional and national organizations who are interested in promoting family therapy to come together and discuss the issues of advancing the field of family therapy. A Gala dinner on Friday, March 6, 2009, complete with a native folklore animation program will also be organized, a perfect setting for further networking opportunities. The official language of the all the meetings and programs is English, all abstract submissions and presentations are to be in English as well.
