Fremont, CA – Spime Inc, is a Silicon Valley California based company and leading provider of white labeled LBS solutions and location enabling technologies to the mobile world. In addition to the company’s NorthStar™ Suite of LBS solutions - that include an LBS Widget Framework, turn-by-turn voice navigation, location tracking and advertising enabled widgets - the company provides location enabling technology components such as the Symbian LBS SDK.
Spime’s Symbian LBS SDK provides a rich set of APIs enabling developers to build consumer grade S60 applications that are location and navigation enabled. The services implementation makes use of the Symbian S60 3rd edition APIs. Currently 3rd edition and 5th edition devices are supported. Application developers can use the exported C++ APIs to develop native LBS applications for Symbian devices.
The Spime LBS SDK includes the LBS engine’s DLL, required library and header files, SDK documentation, sample code, and build and deployment guide. Developers can take advantage of the short learning curve to build consumer grade LBS applications.
“Spime’s Symbian LBS SDK boosts productivity with easy-to-use APIs, reducing the complexities of LBS platforms,” says Kris Kolodziej, CTO.
The Spime LBS SDK uses external servers to fetch maps, POI, routing and other location services data. The services APIs supported include:
1. Location API – Provides GPS data for user position, and GPS satellite and position accuracy data such as availability of a GPS fix.
2. Map markers – An image can be displayed to mark location on a map utilizing several sources, including - the source, destination, way points, POIs and user defined images.
3. POI search – Enables applications to query for a POI which can include a user defined distance range within a search. The POI name and address details are returned to the user. Over 30 POI categories are supported with any location viewable on a Map. And, navigate to a selected POI can be obtained.
4. Geocoding and Reverse-Geocoding – These APIs provide forward and reverse geocode functionality including address look up and translation.
5. Map service – Map rendering, panning and zooming features are supported with continuous map update notifications while panning, zooming, navigating and simulating operations.
6. Routing – Source and destination points can be configured to provide a route and “way points” for multiple stops along a route can be selected, enabling a plotted route to be viewed on a map. Routes can be personalized by the user for the fastest, shortest or toll free routes.
7. Turn-by-
In addition to the C++ APIs in the S60 platform, the JSR Location library is supported from S60 3rd Edition onwards and in some Series 40 3rd Edition devices. Spime also offers the JSR-293, which provides standardized access to LBS services from Java ME applications.
