Oxford's First Ever Mouth of the South
The search is on for the South's funniest mouth
Oxford, Miss. – The Mouth of the South contest will bring comedians together to compete for the celebrated title of funniest person in the South. The Powerhouse Theater in Oxford, Miss., home to the professional comedy troupe Laff Co. will host the event on May 7, 2009.
"We are really excited for the Mouth of the South," Bruce Butler, director of Laff Co., said. "It's going to bring the funniest people in the South together, or at least the ones who think they're funny."
Laff Co. will be master of ceremonies for the event, as competitors from exotic locations such as Birmingham, Tupelo, Memphis, Jackson and Little Rock battle to be recognized as the funniest person, or just the one with the biggest mouth. Comedy fans, college students and Southerners wait to behold the most hilarious person this side of the Mason-Dixon line.
The event will feature top stand-up comedians, a panel of judges from radio personalities to local humor writers and input from the audience. Because when an event is named "Mouth of the South" everyone is going to put in their two cents.

Right now, the search is on for comedians to compete for the yearlong name of Mouth of the South. Those interested are encouraged to submit a video or link to a video to the Mouth of the South MySpace page. They should also include their name, phone number, email address, where they live and what experience they have in comedy. In addition, a $5 entrance fee is required of all applicants and can be paid through a Paypal account on the MySpace page.
