DALLAS –Shermco Industries, a leading provider of rotating apparatus and electrical power system testing, commissioning, repair, maintenance and training, has announced the addition of Wind Generation Substation Maintenance and Safety program to its training offerings. Shermco will perform 21 on-site classes at wind farms around the United States through March 2009 and is currently taking bookings for beyond March.
The new training program is designed to train wind industry professionals on the maintenance of electrical power system equipment located at the wind generation site while covering the use and interpretation of single-line diagrams. Shermco will also address the hazards associated with electrical equipment and cover safety components like arc flash awareness.
“In our work with the wind industry, there has been a lot of interest in shoring up the electrical skills and knowledge of those in the industry to be OSHA compliant and this is our response to meet those demands,” said Ron Widup, executive vice president of Shermco Industries. “The program covers all of the testing and maintenance procedures and required electrical safety principals needed to be OSHA compliant in the wind industry.”
To date, Shermco has given the safety program to companies including Iberdrola Renewables, Horizon Wind, PPM Energy, BP Alternative Energy and Edison Mission Group, a subsidiary of Southern California Edison.
