Sensual seamless floors – designed to encourage people to lose the shoes and walk barefoot are - now being launched in the UK by Barefoot.
Including marble and stone carpets and ‘poured’ floors based on clean-resin technology, the surfaces deliver a stunning finish, which is designed to support health and vitality.
Walking barefoot has real health benefits, and Barefoot has worked with chiropractor Dr Robert Oldham of Salveo Chiropractic to develop the concept for the flooring market.
Dr Robert Oldham, who is based in Cheshire, said: “Barefoot floors actively stimulate the nervous system when walking over them in bare feet, hence the name Barefoot.
“The mechanism of this simple principle is to stimulate the nerves in the feet responsible for pressure and balance. These nerves then send signals to the spinal cord and brain – the central nervous system - that you are walking on uneven ground.
“The message is received and interpreted in a way that makes feet, ankle and leg muscles contract in order to prevent injury such as a twisted ankle.
“If you try and stand on one leg you will realise and feel how many muscles in the foot, ankle, leg and low back contract to keep you standing straight. Barefoot flooring works on a similar principle, therefore, strengthening muscles in a non-stressful way.
“At Salveo Clinic of Chiropractic we have had Barefoot flooring installed in our consultation rooms to allow patients to experience the benefits from walking on this type of floor which stimulates their nervous system.
“Chiropractic helps people who suffer with neuro-musculoskeletal disorders by assisting the nerves, muscles and joints to work at their optimum. This is the reason why Barefoot floors have been so well received by our patients.”

Floors from Barefoot include Hot Rocks, a stunning floor comprising of marble pebbles, brought to life in a clear resin finish, which creates a unique, foot massaging finish. Underfloor heating, which can be installed beneath the surface, gives out warmth that is retained by the marble for hours.

Technically advanced, the floors also include the element silver, noted for its natural purification qualities, to keep a hygienic, fresh finish – free of dust mites.
Barefoot is a new business venture, which creates a range of floors, all designed to encourage people to lose their shoes and enjoy the feeling of freedom underfoot.
It is the brainchild of entrepreneur Dawn Gibbins MBE, a former Veuve Clicquot Business Woman of the Year.
Last year Dawn sold her Cheshire based global business Flowcrete - which she built up from a start-up in the 1980s to a major international company with offices in 30 countries.
Through Barefoot, Dawn is now able to combine her love of flooring with her passion for health, well-being and Feng Shui.
Based in Cheshire, the company is due to open a showroom facility at its offices in spring 2009. Other products including Smoothies, contemporary shiny resin ‘poured’ floors in all colours of the rainbow, and Cool Rocks, stone flooring for driveways and patio areas, are due to launch later this year.
