Identifying performance issues shortly before application release can be a risky strategy as the impact of fixing these issues may result in the application delivery date slipping. This has a cost in itself; add to this the cost of reengineering the application and the cost spiral.
Adam Brown of Quotium Technologies said: “By finding bottlenecks early on costs are limited. IT projects aren’t too different from other projects - take an example of building a house. If we’re testing throughout the lifecycle and the site is found to have an unstable base, we change the site for a stable one, if we’re not testing and we build the house anyway, then find it’s not stable and we have a very expensive and painful problem”.
