Zachary Michaelson to Teach Portfolio Management Course

Class taught by Zachary Michaelson will be part of NYU's credit crisis offerings.

Feb. 15, 2009 - PRLog -- Zachary Michaelson, an adjunct lecturer and experienced hedge fund portfolio manager, will teach the course "Fixed Income Portfolio Management" (X51.9015) at New York University (NYU) beginning February 23, 2009.

With the recent uncertainty in the global economy, this class is part of NYU's course offerings to help students make sense of the credit crisis. As an advanced course, it is designed for students with a familiarity of financial markets and interest rate securities and who would like to learn more about trading bonds and managing portfolios.

"This class is extremely relevant in the current credit crisis," says Zachary Michaelson.

"Students will be challenged to question the standard theories, think creatively and ultimately develop ideas about how to profit from market uncertainty," Michaelson adds.

Students will also gain an understanding of the quantitative methods of portfolio optimization, forecasting and risk management. Zachary Michaelson will also cover market inefficiency and how it can be exploited with strategy development, as well as issues specific to the management of fixed income portfolios, including funding, yield curve dynamics and monetary economics.

In-class debates will be an important component of each class. By the end of the course, students will have developed a portfolio of work and completed various technical assignments.

The course, which will include ten sessions, will end on April 27, 2009 and can be applied towards a Certificate in Portfolio Management or Degree in Credit Analysis.
