The Save Iowa website was originally setup to assist the victims of the historic 2008 Iowa Floods. Almost every major city in Iowa, from Des Moines to Cedar Rapids to Waterloo, was affected by the flooding. Some cities, like Palo, Iowa, were completely destroyed and have still yet to recover. The goal of Save Iowa was to provide a central resource for those affected by the floods or those looking to find out more information.
During the height of the flood aftermath, Save Iowa gained popularity throughout the state and in the blogosphere. It became a major online resource, and was featured on then Senator Barack Obama’s website.
With recovery efforts well under way all across Iowa, the focus of this website has shifted from just flood news and information to a more broad approach to helping the state of Iowa…one cause at a time.
Save Iowa was completely redesigned from the datebase up, to allow for a more focused approach of becoming an all-inclusive online Iowa recovery initiative. Save Iowa will now feature several causes and charities throughout the year, narrowing in on specific organizations and activities in an attempt to better highlight the relief efforts and charities throughout the Hawkeye state. This site is aimed at assisting visitors in finding information and a better understanding on how they can help improve the state of Iowa.
