PRLog (Press Release) -

Vancouver, B.C., Canada — Daylon Graphics®
Ltd. today announced Daylon Landshaper Golf™, a design/prototyping software application for golf course architects. Adding to the features of its existing Landshaper program, Landshaper Golf is also the updated version of TerrainTek Golf Course Designer™, whose marketing responsibilities were recently folded back into Daylon Graphics.
“Which is why it's Landshaper Golf 2.0.” explains Ray Gardener, Daylon's administrator. “For existing GCD users, it made more sense to not have a 1.0 release again, even if the numeric similarity would have only been semantic.”
Landshaper Golf adds vector shapes, which can be arbitrarily filled, stroked, and opacified, and are displayed on top of the main terrain drape texture. Shapes can also be elevated and used to create convex terrain hulls or individual formations.
The raster terrain (heightfield)
data can also create contour lines as shapes. “Which adds an interesting ability to model terrain using contours, since the convex hull process lets you go from contours back to raster terrain. Contours have been a long-standing tool in golf course design, so this facility lets people newer to the digital sandbox paradigm transition easily.”
There's also a routing shape, which lets one plan individual golf holes. After creating a routing, it can be manipulated in a manner similar to the more general-purpose spline shapes.
“The golf course architecture industry is in transition.”
Gardener admits. “The current economic crisis has lowered both the number of people playing golf and demand for course construction. But that's all the more reason to keep improving the tools and getting them into people's hands. When people have less to work with, they need to make the most of what they have. The more efficiently they can work, the sooner things will bounce back. Meeting this kind of challenge is what software is really good at.”
