Salt Lake City, UT – On January 31, 2009, in the Hilton Anaheim in California, Dallin Larsen, founder and president of MonaVie, addressed a captivated audience of more than 30,000 people, both live and via webcast.
The green Lamborghini Murcielago at the front of the ballroom signaled the day’s main event.
“What better way to start the New Year,” Dallin began, “than to announce the second Crowne Black Diamonds in the world of MonaVie!”
For MonaVie (www.monavie.com)—
Over the last four years, the Merritts have realized their dreams and so much more as MonaVie distributors. They’ve built their dream home; earned $2 million in bonuses, a Mercedes SL500 and a Lamborghini Murcielago; and seen the world, from the islands of Greece and the Mediterranean Sea to the beaches of Hawaii.
While companies across the nation scramble to cut costs during these turbulent economic times, MonaVie is looking for bigger and better ways to reward distributors just like Steve and Gina, including incentive trips, corporate jet credits and much more. And, that is precisely why Steve says that public perception of the direct selling industry is at an all-time high.
In today’s corporate world where no job is safe, families and individuals are looking for a way to obtain secure, residual incomes. People are more open than ever before to the idea of building their own direct selling businesses. Beginning only its fourth year of existence in 2009, MonaVie is leading the charge according to Steve.
“MonaVie is changing the image of the direct selling industry by putting distributors first and offering incentives that no other company can compete with,” Steve says. “The founder and the corporate team at MonaVie think about distributors first, not about how much money they can make. Anyone who wants to can succeed in MonaVie through the successful selling of the company’s acai-based product.”
It’s his last statement that Steve feels most strongly about. A former World Champion Barefoot Water-skier and flight attendant, respectively, Steve and Gina form an unlikely duo to become one of the most successful distributorships in direct selling.
“Think of all the people in the world who have influence—corporate executives, doctors, restaurant or business owners, bankers and real estate brokers,” Steve says. “Gina and I aren’t those people. Without a college degree, I had no credibility as a businessman. We got into MonaVie a year-and-a-half after the company launched, and we met Dallin Larsen for the first time in our lives only three years ago. We didn’t have any of the things that people assume it takes to be successful in this business—education, money or connections.”
What the Merritts did have was a belief in the product and belief in themselves. Steve says that it seems like just yesterday that he and Gina were struggling financially and desperately looking for help. They decided to turn off their television and do 125 MonaVie tasting parties in a row. “We turned the tube back on 126 days later and realized we hadn’t missed a thing,” he recalls. “We haven’t stopped since.”
The sacrifices the Merritts have made extend far beyond missing out on their favorite television shows. With four children they home-school and two full-time jobs, the Merritts had to sacrifice leisure time wherever they could. Gina says that instead of making excuses for why not to get involved in MonaVie, new distributors should learn how to enjoy the journey.
“You have to look on the bright side,” Gina says. “You and your spouse can either go to two different jobs, never seeing each other, or you can be working your MonaVie business together. At MonaVie, you don’t have to have a master’s degree in business. We’re not the sharpest people in the company; but, we show people how much we care, not how much we know.”
The Merritts’ passion for MonaVie has paid off for their friends and family as well, with several relatives and neighbors rising in the ranks of the company as a result of Steve and Gina sharing the product and opportunity with them. With the company’s determined mission to become a $20 billion company in the next 20 years, Steve and Gina believe the best is yet to come for MonaVie.
“If a flight attendant and a guy who never went to school can do what we’ve done in MonaVie, just think of what so many others in the world can achieve,” he says. “You have to be able to relate to people and not be afraid of work; but, if working hard means drinking MonaVie and doing tasting parties, then bring it on. How hard is that?”
