India New Zealand tour 2009- preview

Feb. 12, 2009 - PRLog -- India kickoff their 48 day tour of New Zealand with a Twenty20 match. The tour will span 3 Tests, 5 ODI's and 2 Twenty20 matches. New Zealand has always been India's waterloo, Let alone a Test series, India hasn't won a single test in New Zealand

Making matters worse is the fact that there are no practice matches scheduled this time around. This decision of the BCCI has been criticized from all quarters.

The Indian batsmen need to really apply themselves in New Zealandish pitches, which aid the Fast bowlers and are low scoring by nature. The last tour was a disasterous one for India, in which they lost both tests and ODI's 5/2.
The batsmen who adapted well were Sehwag and Rahul Dravid. It needs a paradigm shift from the Indian batsmen to succeed in this tour.

This tour is sure to test the mettle and character of the relatively new side. This being Dhoni's first big overseas assignment. On the flip side India still have Rahul Dravid and Sachin in the ranks, and Sehwag is in good form. Interesting to watch if VVS Laxman makes a comeback to the side in this tour. The new comers will surely have to rely on tips from repeat travelers on how to navigate the trials of the tough tour.
